Second Semester -- The Good Earth
A graphic view of a China when the last emperor reigned and the vast political and social upheavals of the twentieth century were but distant rumblings or the ordinary people. This moving, classic story of the honest farmer Wang Lung and his selfless wife O-lan is must reading for those who would fully appreciate the sweeping changes that have occurred in the lives of the Chinese people during this century.
Rules of Redemption
Seniors who wish to improve Senior English may complete the redemption work for THE GOOD EARTH. Any senior who has a D or F may do the assignments for credit scores.
The redemption work is an all or nothing assignment. In short, seniors are expected to complete all the assignments at 70% or better to earn credit. Seniors should use the resources available to take advantage of the work.
All work must be submitted on APRIL 6 upon arrival to class. Hard copies are required (no email). Please staple and label with name, all the assignments
If a senior is absent, he or she should send the work in with a friend. No assignments after Monday, April 6 will be considered for credit.
You must complete all five parts: Vocabulary worksheets, one extended activity, read-along answers, open book test and a book jacket.
It is your responsibility to secure a copy of The Good Earth at the library or via internet or in iBooks. (copies may be secured from either instructor)
